The Ventura County Rescue Mission provides for three different groups. We provide over 740 meals a day for families, single men, single women and women with children. We also provide shelter for up to 48 men. We call these two groups of people our guests. The third group of men, those who enter our Life Recovery Program, are called our clients. We are giving them a hand up in life instead of just a temporary hand out. We provide our clients a genuine life change through job training and placement, as well as help recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. We teach money management, anger management and biblical life skills, which include how you treat your future employer or family members, and the wisdom in submitting to governmental authorities, i.e. the law.
The Lighthouse for Women & Children operates similarly except they don’t provided meals to the outside. The Lighthouse does care for guests and clients within its shelter and Life Recovery Program. The goal is restoration: to restore a father to his children, a mother to her children, a son or daughter to their parents. Once they complete all the requirements within the Life Recovery Programs, they graduate—for some this is the only graduation they will celebrate during their lives.
