Looking back at a big year at the Lighthouse
Warm greetings from the Lighthouse for Women and Children!
Thank you for supporting and partnering with the Lighthouse. We are so grateful that we are able to fill our beds at both our Emergency Shelter and Recovery Program.
We had 14 women graduate our Life Recovery Program in 2021. The majority of them have employment and housing, while some graduates and their children have chosen to stay in our two-year Transitional Living program.
We had our first ever wedding at the Lighthouse on the back patio. One of our recent graduates Elizabeth and her husband Alex committed themselves to marriage at the end of April.
In September, we were able to take our women camping—we went on hikes, and spent the night in our tents while listening to the ocean waves. Everyone had an amazing time! We are so grateful that we were able to help them create new memories.
We recently held our first Alumni Luncheon. We wanted to reach out to our past graduates and encourage them. We let them know they are part of our family and they are not alone. We are able to help them with employment resources, prayer, and basic everyday necessities as well. We believe this was a success and that they left uplifted and encouraged.
We began to collect items for our Homeless Outreach. We go to the Ventura River bottom in Oxnard every other Wednesday with a team of staff from the Lighthouse and Ventura County Rescue Mission, along with volunteers. We offer prayer and much needed supplies such as water, food and clothing.
Unfortunately, in 2021 we saw a dramatic increase in domestic violence cases, and the need for our program continues to increase. We are currently remodeling one of our facilities, which contains 20 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. The building is opening in phases, and will eventually be able to house more than 50 women. This will be a blessing as we continue to feed, clothe and shelter women and children in our community
We are able to do all this because of your support. Please connect with us on Facebook and watch these women give their testimonies. They have worked so hard and we are so proud of them. Please continue to pray for our women, children and staff. We want to thank you for your continuous support. We are so grateful for you.
