We love Christmastime at the Saltee’s because my wife Becki decorates, and there is the smell of cinnamon and apples in the air. During the holidays, I am reminded that hundreds of people do not have a place they call home.
They are often without family members, friends or even acquaintances, and Christmastime is particularly difficult and lonely. At the Ventura County Rescue Mission and the Lighthouse, we throw our doors wide open inviting anyone and everyone to come in from the cold. Enjoy a hot shower and a warm meal—we even have cookies! But most importantly, all who enter our doors experience the love of God through the kindness and compassion of our staff.
We really love them; some have slept in their clothes, smelling of urine, and others are so hungry they become agitated easily, but we love them. For Jesus said, “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” If I was in their shoes, I would want someone, anyone, to show me a little kindness. We have a lot of kindness to give and our doors are open, because of you, our wonderful donors!
