From the Director – April

One of the most heart wrenching things to watch is children being taken from their mother because of her addictions. We know it’s the right thing to do for the children’s sake, but it’s so difficult. When a woman loses parental rights, it tears at her soul, and she finds herself in a very dark and depressing place.

At the Lighthouse, we provide the hope these women need so that they can get at the source of their addictions and begin to heal. At the same time, we are training them to be strong for themselves so they can become outstanding parents to their children. They undergo vocational training in order to provide for their families.

After completing all the required training, reports are written and a request is made informing the courts that this parent is ready to receive back her children. The mother’s broken heart is full of joy again when she sees her children get out of the van and come running into her arms. There isn’t a dry eye in the place. The Lighthouse, an extension of the Ventura County Rescue Mission, is dedicated to reaching the women who are lost, addicted, battered, and brokenhearted, and this wouldn’t be possible without you. Most of these women have no resources to fund a recovery program; the Lighthouse is free to all because of you.
